Oh look, it's a new day, and for every new day in May there will be a new blog post, because it's Blog Every Day In May time!
Day 8, Wednesday: A piece of advice you have for others. Anything at all.
I know that Saturday 4th May was the day to share a favourite quote, but this quote is something I try to live by (but don't always succeed).
"You've gotta dance like there's nobody watching,
Love like you'll never be hurt,
Sing like there's nobody listening,
And live like it's heaven on earth."
This lovely piece of text comes from author, William Purkey. I use the "sing like there's nobody listening" part when I advise people not to care what other people think. We all sing loudly in the car or in the shower or in our bedrooms when we're on our own and getting dressed, and you know what, we're happy. We have a surge of energy and we have to let it out. But as soon as someone else enters that environment, we clam up. We sing quieter or we stop singing all together, for fear of what the other person might think.
So my advice to you is to think "Who cares?" Who cares what you're wearing? Who cares what colour your hair is? Who cares what car you drive? Who cares what your job is? Who cares who you're married to? Who cares if you dance around to the muzak playing in a supermarket? Who cares if you skip down the road as you take your kids to school?
This video of a woman dancing at a bus-stop went viral recently, and I bet everyone who watched it laughed out loud and thought she looked stupid, but secretly wished they had the courage to behave like her.
If you like doing something, do it. If doing that thing makes you happy, keep making yourself happy. Don't care about what other people think of you. They don't matter. Fill your world with your own joy and don't let anyone take that away from you.
