The Writers at Lovedean

Welcome to my interview with Charlotte Comley, from The Writers at Lovedean.

Hello Charlotte, can you please tell us a bit about your writing group?
We can be found every Friday from 10am - 12.30, in the small hall at Lovedean Village Hall

The Writers @ Lovedean cost £4 a session.
We are a lively bunch of writers, who are all enthusiastic about our own various projects; including novels, short stories, children's literature and poetry.
We meet every Friday at 10 o'clock at Lovedean Village Hall.
An eclectic group from various backgrounds, and skill levels. Some just enjoy writing for the pleasure, some looking to get published.
As a group we look to produce a souvenir book every year. All our members are encouraged to get their work in the book.
New members are always welcome.
How many members, on average, does your group have?
22 on the books which mean that we get 10 people on average every Friday.
Who are you and what is your role within the group?
I'm Charlotte Comley, I run the group.
How are your sessions structured?
One week we have a reading week, members bring work to read and get feedback on. Depending on numbers average time is 6 minutes reading.
Next week is a work week. I provide different writing exercises. We work individually, in smaller groups or with a partner. 
What types of things do you cover in your group?
Poetry, short story, novels & children's fiction - although we did go through a script writing phase and flash fiction.
What have been some of your most popular/successful activities?/
Some of the social events. I'm always looking out for places our members can read.
Is there a lot of diversity with regards to your members' writing?
 Big diversity.
Have you ever written collectively as a group, such as producing an anthology?
We produce an anthology every year. 
Do you have guest speakers at your group?
Yes. 
Do members of the group get a chance to run/lead a session or part of a session?
Yes. 
What kind of support does your writing group provide for its writers?
Feedback, we have an editing sub group. Finding places to send work.
Where do you get your ideas/writing prompts from?
From my head, courses I have attended, the net.  
What is the best piece of writing advice you've been given?
Don't talk about it, write.
