Mah Mummeh

Throughout the month I will Blog Every Day in May, as part of Jenni's bloghop.  Have a looksee at her blog if you fancy being a part of it too.  It's not too late to give it a go.

Day 5, Sunday: Publicly profess your love and devotion for one of your blogger friends. What makes them great? Why do you love them? If you don't have blogger friends, talk about a real-life friend or even a family member

I haven't yet built up a community of blogging friends (although I hope to eventually achieve this).  So this blog post will be about a real-life friend and family member.

My Mummy

Mum and me, way back in the olden days
My mum is great, and I love her for the following reasons (there are a million more reasons, but I don't want to give her a big head!):
  • She takes care of me when I'm not well.  She knows exactly what to do to make me feel better.  She plumps my pillows, and wraps me up in my duvet, and brings me medicine, and puts my favourite films/programmes on the telly.  She doesn't make a fuss of me, but she does what she can to make me feel comfortable.
  • She's an honest shopping partner.  Whenever I go clothes shopping, I prefer to go with my mum than anyone else.  She'll always tell me the truth if I try on something that doesn't suit me.
  • She (along with my dad) takes care of my dog Lily if I have to go out/go to work.  She doesn't complain or moan.  She just does it.
  • She comes with me to the dentist.  I hate dentists.  But it's made so much better knowing my mum is in the room with me.
  • She's not as old as her birth certificate states she is.  My mum is of a certain age but she doesn't look it, nor does she behave like it.  I see so many grumpy old women, dressing like old biddies, and acting at least 10 years older than they are.  My mum is the opposite.  She's got a bright outlook on life, and doesn't let her age dictate her personality, her wardrobe, or her interests.
  • She makes going to the gym fun.  We go to the gym together, where we swim, do Pilates, and attempt to use the weights/machines.  I've been to the gym a couple of times on my own and it's rubbish.  But when I go with my mum we pretty much always have a laugh.  We encourage each other to do one more sit-up or one more weight lift, and we have a chuckle watching the beefcakes flexing their muscles in front of the mirrors.  And if we're both feeling a bit lazy, we just go home without feeling guilty!
  • She has never complained about my music, my tattoos, my piercings, my clothes, or the colour of my hair.  She let me grow up to be me.  She never told me that I could or couldn't do things; she let me find my own way and learn my own lessons.  She would always tell me that my body is my body and it's my choice what I do to it.  In fact, she got her first tattoo before I got mine.  I bought it for her as a birthday present and went with her when she had it done.  I thought the noise of the machines would put me off having one, but it didn't.  And my mum has held my hand throughout all of my tattooing.  Because of her attitude, I've never needed to rebel or do things just to p- her off, which has meant that we haven't had any unnecessary arguments that I've seen other mothers and daughters have.
  • She loves me, and anyone who thinks I'm worthy of their love must be pretty great, right?!
